Everything people usually want to know before converting their first HEIC photo.
HEIC stands for High Efficiency Image Container, based on the HEIF (High Efficiency Image Format) standard. Apple made it the default photo format starting with iOS 11 because it compresses images more efficiently than JPG.
Older versions of Windows don't include a built-in HEIC decoder, and many photo viewers and editors never added support either. Converting to JPG or PNG sidesteps the problem entirely, since both formats are supported everywhere.
Converting to PNG is fully lossless. Converting to JPG involves a small amount of re-compression, which is barely noticeable at the default 85% quality setting and can be adjusted higher if you need an exact match.
No. Every conversion happens locally in your browser tab. Nothing is sent over the network, which also means the tool keeps working even if your internet connection drops mid-way.
There's no artificial limit set by the tool. In practice, the number of photos you can convert at once depends on your device's available memory, since everything is processed locally rather than on a server.
Any recent version of Chrome, Safari, Firefox, or Edge on desktop, Android, or iOS. The tool relies on standard browser APIs that have been supported for several years.
This tool converts still HEIC/HEIF photos only. Live Photos and video files use a different underlying format and aren't supported here.
Yes. A file named IMG_0231.HEIC becomes IMG_0231.jpg or IMG_0231.png, so your photo library stays organized after conversion.
